If you want a signed copy, these will be a good opportunity to get one. All proceeds go to CMC. Les Love The Future of North Carolina's State Parks
This plan is required by the 1987 State Parks Act. The plan outlines the activities and achievements of the state parks system from 2000 through 2008, and lays out key strategic directions for the state parks system over the next few years.
The document will be available for public review until October 31, 2009. We welcome all comments about the plan itself or about the state parks system in general. Come share John and Joan Dickson's three-week expedition to the Antarctic, South Georgia and the Falkland Islands in early 2009. John was a CMC president in the late 1980s. The pictures are awesome and the narration is very well done. You will sense the remoteness, the fierce winds, the amazing ice, the magnificent animals and the astounding beauty. Meet the Southern Environmental Law Center! Last summer eNews readers were introduced to about a dozen conservation and environmental organizations with which the CMC Conservation Committee works when it's studying and acting on issues on the Club's behalf. We'lll bring you fuller reports from the organizations themselves about their goals and projects, with special emphasis on aspects that impact hiking in WNC. Read on to learn what the Southern Environmental Law Center is doing to protect our air, water, and mountain lands. Marianne Newman Cades Cove Loop Road will be closed in Spring, 2010 Due to the limitations on work processes posed by the narrow, single lane historic road, the Park plans to close the road to all use from March 1 through May 21, 2010. The work is weather sensitive so the actual closing period could be influenced by the amount of rainfall. This will affect the trails off the Cades Cove road, so plan ahead. Barnett Branch Boardwalk
The Pisgah Friday crew completed the repairs to the boardwalk this past Friday. All is well again.

Ted Connors Wins an Award At the Annual Meeting of the Blue Ridge Literacy Council on 9/28, the G'Anne Sparks award for Outstanding Tutor was presented to Ted Connors. Congratulations, Ted! Walt Weber has completed the sequel to the Profiles book of the MST, titled Trail Profiles and Maps from the Great Smokies to Mount Mitchell and Beyond. This new book is in color and has Topo maps. The book will be released at our annual meeting on October 24.
The Systemwide Plan for North Carolina State Parks is available for public review and input.
