Report from the CMC Damascus Hikers

Seven of us attended the weekend in Damascus, Virginia and had a great time, it seems. Five of us did the eleven mile loop hike beginning and ending at Massie Gap in Grayson Highlands State Park via the Rhododendron Trail, A.T. north, Pine Mtn. Trail, and back on the A.T. to Rhododendron Trails with nice views.

One wild pony was being aggressive -- as soon as he saw me unzip my pack to get my gloves, he zoomed over to get food from my pack. I quickly tossed an apple at him and hurried out of there! When she was done eating it, she and the baby ran after me to try and get more! Ha!

We enjoyed a nice Saturday evening dinner in Abingdon at "Withers". The B&B, "Montgomery Homestead", was very cozy and comfortable. On Sunday morning, seven of us took the bike shuttle up to Whitetop and biked seventeen miles to Damascus on the Virginia Creeper Trail. It was a beautiful ride through Mt. Rogers National Recreation Area, over lots of bridges over rapid rivers, and along beautiful farm pastures with lots of beauty from the Fall colors! Nice time. Reported by Tish Desjardins
