This favorite moderate hike on the Mountains-to-Sea Trail rewards hikers with great views of the Haw Creek Valley. From the back parking lot of the Folk Art Center, we'll carpool a short distance north to the MST crossing of the BRP and hike from there.Topos: Oteen

I live in East Asheville, so this is my "go-to" hike. Depending on how much time and energy I have, it's a ~5mile roundtrip if leaving on foot from the Folk Art Center, ~4mile roundtrip from Bull Mountain (my usual), or ~3mile roundtrip from the MST/BRP intersection. For this leisure hike, we'll carpool about a mile north of the Folk Art Center for the shorter version. I like this hike because it's close to town and has a payoff at the end--the Haw Creek Overlook, known by many as "Lunch Rock" because it's a great place to stop and eat lunch.
