*Canceled due to trail conditions.* Contact leader by email for reservation. This moderate double-loop trail follows two overgrown USFS paths. Expect a lot of scrambling over blowdowns, a couple of short, steep sections and two minor creek crossings. There is one good view of Looking Glass Rock and several waterfalls.Topos: Shining Rock

Tom Butler and I scouted this entire hike. and to our disappointment it isnt possible to safely hike this route. Much of the loop is closed in with dog hobble and laurel. That is the easy part. Beyond the crossover of the figure 8 at least 50% of the final 3 miles is frustratingly strewn with blowdowns and deadfalls. Some of them on 45-degree slopes. In the last mile of the hike we lost the trail entirely and dropped down to Rte 276 and walked back on the rd. So...the alternate hike for September 12th will be: Turkey Pen Ramble. hike #321 in the data base. 6 miles. This will include parts of S. Mills River trail, Bradley Creek, And Pounding Mill, Squirrell Gap, and Mullinax...depending, This hike will include at least two wet crossings of the S. Mills River. and others depending on the rte.
