Hike Description

Contact Karen by email for reservation. Limit of 10 hikers. Meeting place is next door to the Asheville Visitor Center. PLEASE do not park at the Visitor Center. Walk the Asheville Camino del Norte, a 10-mile easy walk on sidewalks and trails. See North Asheville, University of North Carolina at Asheville and the Botanical Gardens. Have a caf? con leche at the historic Grove Park Inn. The hike simulates a short day on the Camino. Wear good sneakers or low boots. Bring water, snacks and lunch. We will stop for morning coffee, but feel free to bring your own food. Topos: Asheville

This incredible urban hike truly gives you a taste of many of the great neighborhoods and sites in Asheville. Take a peek into The Minor Basilica of St. Lawrence - the Deacon & Martyr is a minor basilica of the Catholic Church in downtown Asheville, Walk the historic Montford neighborhood. Wind your way up backroads to the historic Grove Park Inn. Enjoy a coffee stop inside the Inn. Walk historic North Asheville winding your way down and around Beaver Lake. Hike up into the woods behind UNCA and onto the UNCA campus. Enjoy lunch at the quad in front of the UNCA library. Enjoy the trails through the Botanic Gardens and along the beautiful Reed Creek Greenway. To wrap up the hike, be one of the first to enjoy the installation of a new, interactive piece of public art where the Reed Creek Greenway intersects with Catawba Street in North Asheville. The hike is roughly 12 miles and takes about 6.5 hours which includes coffee, lunch and trail break stops. Thanks to Danny for scouting this great hike with me!
