About the Hike

Hike Description

This section of the Bartram Trail connects the Appletree campground, several miles along the Nantahala River in old growth forest, and the Duke Energy power station on Wayah Road. There are a few different options for tackling this section. The first is completing Section 11 as a key swap (What is a ?key swap??) or shuttle. The steepest part of the trail is the ~2 miles gravel road closest to the gorge, so pick your route accordingly: The ?Uphill? route will start with that steep grade, and the ?Downhill? will end with it.
