Description
- How will you quickly and accurately transmit the location of a trail issue to the maintenance crew?
- How do you let your at-home contact person know precisely where your campsite is?
- When telling 911 where an injured hiker is located, what is the best way to deliver that information?
The US National Grid coordinate system is rapidly replacing UTM as the gold standard for land navigation. This course will help you understand how the USNG coordinate system operates, and then provide guided practice using it with various phone apps. You don’t have to be an expert in navigation to be able to harness the power within your phone to precisely pinpoint a location.

Please note: If you took this class in June, you are welcomed to sign up for this one as well. Why would you want to do that? The previous class tried to cover too much material, shortchanging the important core material. We learned our lesson, and this new iteration will have a narrower focus and provide students with much more time for practice and refining their understanding.
This class brought to you by the CMC Search and Rescue Crew.
